Alain-Pierre Gadeau is PhD in cell biology. He was involved for many years in vascular biology in atherosclerotic context.
He first isolated the Osteopontin protein from Smooth muscle cells and characterized its role in this cell type, more particularly in its migration. Moreover he demonstrated the involvement of this protein in endothelial healing and in heart failure.
His team works now on angiogenesis and vessel maturation. More precisely its group works on the hypothesis that in association with angiogenic therapy, promoting optimal 3D organization of the new vessel network would enhance blood perfusion. Moreover he proposes that the Hedgehog (Hh) pathway which has been shown to be reactivated in adult ischemic tissues and that is known to orchestrate the multicellular crosstalk and organization of other branched tissues, could promote angiogenesis and 3D organization of the newly generated vascular network during ischemic muscle repair in adults.
